Our Commitment to Inclusion

The Town of Blackstone 250th Semiquincentennial Committee is dedicated to ensuring that our celebration website is accessible to all residents and visitors. We believe that information regarding our 250th anniversary should be easy to find, read, and understand, regardless of physical or cognitive ability.

Integrated Accessibility Tools

To provide a customizable experience, we have integrated a suite of accessibility features across our website. Users can access these tools at any time via the accessibility interface located on the bottom-left of the screen.

Our digital toolkit includes:

  • Customizable Readability: Users can adjust the site to their needs by increasing or decreasing font sizes, switching to dyslexia-friendly fonts, adjusting line height, and increasing letter spacing.
  • Visual & Contrast Modes: We offer dark, light, and high-contrast modes, as well as monochrome/grayscale options to assist users with visual impairments or light sensitivity.
  • Navigation & Focus Aids: To help maintain focus, users can enable a Reading Guide (horizontal line), utilize a high-visibility cursor, or pause animations for any moving content on the site.
  • Text Alignment: Users may force left-alignment of text to provide a consistent and predictable reading structure.
  • Audio Assistance: We provide text-to-speech functionality across most pages of the site, including our homepage and news updates, to assist users who prefer or require auditory information.
  • Language & Translation: This site utilizes a language detection feature based on your browser settings. Additionally, we provide a manual language selector on the site. If you require a language that is not currently listed, please reach out to the Committee and we will make every effort to assist you.
  • Image Descriptions: We aim to provide Alt-Text (Alternative Text) for images used across the site to support screen-reader users.

Continuous Improvement & Limitations

We strive for a clear, consistent, and simple navigation experience. However, as a municipal committee website, we recognize that some sections—particularly third-party linked documents or older PDFs—may have varying levels of accessibility. We are constantly working to improve these areas leading up to the celebration.

We Value Your Feedback

If you encounter any barriers or have suggestions on how we can improve your digital experience, we want to hear from you.
